Really enjoyed this! Thank you both for sharing your experiences with OCD and coping mechanisms. Sometimes you can’t kick Aunty Sue out of the family party, but you can accept she’s there (from a distance, and possibly next to a face-eating leopard)

"It’s a hideous merry-go-round of anxiety, stress and mental anguish."

Okay, so this just answered the question I asked in Jordan's version of the story. I wondered if it caused aggravation or distress.

I'm always so riveted by Jordan's writing, I'm glad his post led me to yours.

Sometimes it can be a huge source of aggravation and disorientation, I’ve gone into psychotic episodes with more severe ruminations - e.g thinking my meds could kill someone, that a weight I left on the floor in the gym could trip someone over

Sometimes I do just laugh at them though 😂 like if I go back to check I’ve shut the door a few times, or I catch myself obsessing over about something, then realise how ridiculous it actually is - sometimes humour is the best remedy!!

I really had no idea how invasive it could be. Thanks for sharing this one.

Fantastic writing. I resonated with SO MUCH of this. I have the fear of dropping medication but for me it’s supplements and my cats eating them. I also have checking compulsions especially around doors, plugs and fire. I did a CBT course last year and it was amazing. I still have OCD, I don’t think it’s going anywhere like Jordan said, but it helped me have the tools to manage it to some degree.

I'm so glad this resonated with you Louise although it sucks that you have to deal with OCD too. I'm in the midst of CBT now and it is great to hear it helped you. I just have to remember to do my homework!!

Yeah unfortunately it’s just gonna be with me and could latch onto anything, but being aware that it’s actually OCD is helpful in itself.

Currently doing CBT for claustrophobia. I truly feel for you, but you've made great progress.

I’ve wondered if I have OCD, but my obsession is around germs. I always carry a tissue or hand wipe to open door knobs when I go out. If I touch anything in public with a bare hand, I basically quarantine that hand and won’t touch my phone or any other personal items until I can disinfect or wash it. I was still masking in public up until last week. I’ve mentioned this to therapists before and they don’t seem concerned, but it definitely impacts my quality of life! I’m not sure how much I identify with other types of obsessive thoughts; I’ll have to keep an eye out for those. Thank you both for raising awareness and offering some solutions!
